How to build a time machine

Who does not dream of using a time machine, once in a while? Either as a customized sportscar by the name of DeLorean with a flux capacitor or as a living history phone booth with guaranteed success in the human history examinations. Science fiction creates the most bizarre forms for time machines and science builds the biggest: for instance "The Large Hadron Collider" in Cern, which accelerates particles to nearly the speed of light and, thanks to Einstein, let's them theoretically travel to the near future.

Beeing able to travel to the future seems to be proven. But according to the current state of knowledge there is no way to travel back in time, or is there? In the session I want to turn our conception of time travel upside down and, with a blinking eye, give a construction manual for building a time machine yourself. Everybody can build a time machine. We just have to start today to have a look at the past tomorrow.

Björn Schmidt is a freelance communication designer M.A. currently working on building a light field camera for virtual reality.

Tropical King prawns made in Germany

The company Förde Garnelen produces tropical king prawns in made in Kiel. The seawater directly from the Baltic Sea, is heated with waste heat up to tropical 28°C, so that the prawns reach their market weight of about 30 grams within half a year. A new technology circulates the seawater to clean it continuously. The excrements of the prawns are used for a bioenergy plant which produces heat and electricity. This material and energy cycle ensure an environmentally friendly and sustainable production. The fed consists with a large part of vegetable ingredients.
The White Tiger prawn is native in the Pacific coast of South and Central America. For the production we use exclusively prawns from artificial reproduction. The prawns grow at constantly conditions throughout the year. The environmental parameters are optimized to the requirements of prawn. No medications are used. For the customers, the prawn are caught immediately after receipt of the order and packed in sealed plastic trays without any use of additives. The prawns will be refrigerated in thermal boxes and freshly delivered by an express delivery inside Germany. What is ordered until 12 o'clock, arrives at the customer until 12 o'clock the next day.
After the Session, Förde Garnelen invite to try out the taste of the White Tiger Prawns made in Kiel at the Harbour Area at 1 pm.

Limited Capacity full
Adding this to your schedule will put you on the waitlist.

Plus, where does work end and your private life start? Do we still need this division after all?

With this “New Work Challenge” we want you to start thinking about your own situation and want you to experiment with possible pains, gains, needs and solutions.

We are very much looking forward to seeing you!

Dealing with Changes – lessons we learn from observing the wind
Windfinder was founded in 1999. The idea was - and still is! - to inform our users where to find the best wind and weather conditions for their sport. During this time, we had to deal with a lot of changes - technologies changed from pager notifications to SMS to Internet to Apps to Mobile, the competitive landscape changed, the user expectations changed, and with all these changes we had to change our product and business, too. This session will tell you about what we learned in this process.

Design the work of a Coworking Manager!

This session is open to everyone who has previous knowledge or experiences with managing a coworking space or is a heavy user of one (this is a stakeholder-workshop). Together with you, Franziska and Birte from Team Marzavan want to work on understanding how a coworking space needs to be managed in a good way and what it needs to be able to build a strong community with its members. We will design the role of a Coworking Manager and get an understanding about its challenges. We will establish empathy with the people in these roles and understand what qualities and assets they need.

On top of that, we will work on how to help coworking managers to do an even better job by educating themselves.

How to digitalize the care for older people.
The german care sectors is going to get in trouble. While more and more humans need someone to care about them, less employees can be found to do the job. But digital products are currently not used to make the work more efficient. Why are we so scared about robots inside care environments and how can we use new technologies to create a better care system?

Hannes Eilers talks about searching for our fears about robots and shows a new way how to develop technology in the care sector as a cooperative project between nursing staff and the University of Applied Sciences in Kiel.

Lego® Serious Play®-Workshop „Shared Vision & Goal Setting“

Urban gardening is not just an issue for kinky city residents and tree-huggers - it is an important development in our cities and societies. The first part of the presentation will discuss the function of urban gardening and point out how sustainable development is thwarted by segregating nature and cities. Secondly, we will layout how the philosophy of Rankwerk merges business and sustainability. Finally, we offer hands on urban gardening for beginners, because who will reap must sow. Last year Hannes (M.Sc. Sustainability, Society and the Environment) and Lasse (B.Sc. Architecture) Popken decided to combine their professions and fulfilled their dream of running their own company. Already during their studies, they dealt with the nutrient cycle and ways to close the nutrient loop. This year they took the opportunity founding “Rankwerk” to show how urban gardening supports a sustainable lifestyle.

Let's build the business bank account of your dreams together

At Hufsy we believe in people and their great ideas. We also believe that business banking is outdated and that’s why we want to change it. Hufsy is a banking platform and financial tool for startups, developed by a startup. We know the pain of handling finances, doing accounting and reporting tax, which is why we believe we can do it better than the traditional banks. We want to help startups, focus more on what makes their heart tick and less on banking.

You wanna know how we do it? Do you want to be a part of creating the future business bank account?

We would like to show you what we are working on and even more: get your input and feedback on the Hufsy platform. During the workshop you will be able to test and access Hufsy. We will explain about our approach and you can tell us, what the financial platform of your dreams need to have.

High Performance Design Thinking

When we talk to people about Design Thinking they usually answer "Oh yes - Design Thinking - that's about becoming more creative!" While that perception is partially right, it still misses the biggest part of Design Thinking and reduces it to the seemingly easiest part. So what is it really about?

Design Thinking is about:

Understanding the challenge of complex projects
Creating a shared vision for project teams
Learning to deal with ambiguity
Using iteration as a way to fail forward
Empathy for the people involved
...and becoming more creative

Sounds like a load full of new concepts to learn? Too much for your busy schedule?

gezeitenraum has developed a "High Performance Design Thinking" Format - spend 45 minutes filled with fun and speed and be surprised how much you can achieve in such a short time.
Experience how Design Thinking feels and create your own understanding of what the "Hype" is about.

As Einstein put it: “If I had an hour to solve a problem and my life depended on it, I would use the first 55 minutes determining the proper question to ask, for once I know the proper question, I could solve the problem in less than five minutes.”

Ways out of the filter bubble

Our news environment is changing. More and more people are using social platforms to access news. Personalization and machine-driven algorithms are on the rise. Yet, it is often overlooked that these developments also have a dark side to them: As we grow more connected, we also increasingly become more isolated. More and more, we see only what our circle of friends like and recommend and in turn we are caught in a vicious circle of self-confirmation. Oftentimes without us even noticing, our image of the world is growing increasingly biased. What can we do to make it less biased? Are we really in a filter bubble? And how can we tell?

As young journalists and founders of the online platform thebuzzard.org, the two speakers, Felix Friedrich and Dario Nassal, have been working to support media diversity for several years. If you are enthusiastic about trends in journalism and wonder what to do as a reader to get out of your respective filter bubble, come and join our session. We show you practical approaches and give you in-depth takeaways:

  • Learn to talk more qualified about the filter bubble problem
  • Get high-quality input on new trends in digital journalism
  • Learn practical tips to get out of your filter-bubble and see the full dimension of political debates more clearly

Think before you act: systemically towards successful innovations
"Successfull innovations are not the copy of others - therefore there is no best practice. To plan for the success of something new/bold we have to consider various factors from the complex reality we are living in - soft factors as hard factors. This short workshop teaches you a systemic approach by using the freeware of the renowned iMODELER (from Lübeck's Consideo) to visualize and analyze interconnections behind your success. If you have access to internet an carry a laptop, smartphone or tablet you can directly join the modeling within the workshop.

The workshop starts with a brief introduction into the history of coops and how they evolved into today’s platform coops. We will then look into platform coop design and try to tackle the question of how we can measure success within a cooperative business environment. What are alternatives to traditional business plan metrics? What’s the social value of platform coops today? How can we develop feasible modes of governance for platform coops, especially with regards to decentralized technologies?

33 Karat - Kreatives Unternehmertum feat. Sealander GmbH

SEALANDER - The amphibious caravan

The SEALANDER is a worldwide unique amphibious vehicle.
It is a combination of trailer, caravan and yacht in one.
High quality and aesthetics of boat-building are combined with the flexibility of a mobile home that results in a dynamic and modern product.
The SEALANDER is an innovative lightweight vehicle that is a custom-made caravan in the first place, but with the help of a few handles and an outboard engine it turns into an a swimming place for relaxation.
There is no special license needed to operate the SEALANDER.
Just slide it into the water and go fishing, swimming, relax in the sun under the opened roof, have candlelight dinner at sunset or do whatever your heart desires – on land or on water!

There are several features that will make your sailing even more enjoyable – a convertible sunroof, a telescopic element that can be used as a swim ladder, and a stainless steel handrail to ensure safe boarding.

The SEALANDER is made of a one-piece hull formed of GRP (glass fiber reinforced plastic), a material that is extremely stable but light at the same time.
The wide windows enable a great view on land and seascapes.
The materials are finished with finest details and precision. The sleek and lovely interior combines modern materials like stainless steel and plastic with more traditional materials like leather and wood to create a clean and unique design.
The customization capability is nearly limitless with lots of options:
For the interior the customer can choose between different materials and colors and combine them in any way they want. Because of these possibilities, each camper has the potential to be unique. Imagination is the only limitation.
The benches can be used as a seat (up to 6 adults) and can be converted to a comfortable bed.
The caravan has capacious storage below the seats that can even be customized to include a toilet, a fridge, a sound system or even a barbecue. Other possible features are a stainless steel wash and cooking module, a gas cooker and a tap that works via water pump.
With a closed sunroof, the SEALANDER is completely weather and waterproof and becomes a safe haven for its passengers.
SEALANDER combines state-of-the-art boat building processes and car body construction with traditional craftsmanship’s precision and love for details.
The SEALANDER meets all required safety standards for land and water vehicles world-wide.
